Mr. Hugh M. Gettys

Mr. Hugh McMaster Gettys, 69, of Elberton, Georgia, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 7, 2015. Mr. Gettys was born on December 25, 1945 in Greenwood, South Carolina to Jasper and Nellie Jacobs Gettys. He had celebrated almost 32 years of marriage with his wife, Joyce Johnson Gettys. Mr. Gettys was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in Vietnam. He worked for the Elbert County School System in the Maintenance Department. In addition to his wife, Joyce, Mr. Gettys is survived by a daughter: Lisa Kirk and her husband, Sam, of Fountain Inn, SC; his mother, Nellie Gettys, of Greenwood, SC; and five grandchildren: Autumn Simpson, Zachary Trotter, Alyssa Trotter, Dee Kirk, and Samantha Kirk. He also leaves behind four brothers: Jack Gettys of Bethune, SC, and Phillip Gettys, David, Gettys, and Keith Gettys, all of Greenwood, SC. Mr. Gettys was preceded in death by his father, Jasper Gettys: his sister, Kay Phillips; and a son, Frank Garrett Trotter. A private service was held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, and entombment followed at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
