Walter Edward "Bubba" Eaves, 79, died September 4th surrounded by family.A highly successful entrepreneur, Mr Eaves was a pioneer in the meat industry, founding a number of businesses and creating several meat production techniques still widely used today. After playing football at Furman University,Mr. Eaves joined the United States Marine Corps where he also played football for the Norfolk Navy Tars.He was a lifelong and generous supporter of many local organizations and charities including St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Elbert County Historic Society, Samuel Elbert Academy and the Elbert County Comprehensive High School's athletic programs. Mr. Eaves was also a long-time patron of Georgia Southern University athletics. Mr Eaves is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jean Taylor Eaves; children Gina Eaves Carter, Edward Eaves, Robert Eaves and Eric Eaves; grandchildren Taylor Carter and Walt Eaves; and sister Betty Ann Rampey. He was preceded in death by his parents - Walter and Kathryn Eaves - and his brother Joe Eaves. The family received condolences at the Eaves' residence on Wednesday, September 7th from 5 to 7 PM. Following his funeral Thursday, September 8th at 11 AM at St Mary's Catholic Church in Elberton, Mr Eaves was interred at Elmhurst Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church (1009 Benson Street. Hartwell) or the charity of your choice.
