Mrs. Sarah Maxwell Blackmon, 88, of Dewy Rose, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Piedmont Regional in Athens, Georgia. Mrs. Blackmon was born in Elbert County, daughter of the late Charles S. and Lucy Higginbotham Maxwell.She was the widow of Hudson Joshua Blackmon.Mrs. Blackmon worked as a seamstress throughout her life, retiring from Blue Bell Manufacturing, and later enjoyed being the proprietor of Nip & Tuck Fabrics in Comer, Georgia for 30 years.She was a faithful member of Stinchcomb United Methodist Church. Mrs. Blackmon is survived by seven children: Jimmy Blackmon and his wife, Annette of Carlton, JoAnn B. Johnson and her husband, Bobby of Franklin Springs, Burt Blackmon and his wife, Mary of McDonough, Lana Whitener of Elberton, Mary B. Hall and her husband, Jimmy of Elberton, Tim Blackmon and his wife, Brenda of Dewy Rose,and Laura McPherson and her husband, Jim of Commerce.She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.She was the last surviving sibling of thirteen. A service to celebrate Mrs. Blackmon’s life was held on Monday, April 17th at 4:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home.A time of visitation was held on Sunday evening, April 16th from 7:00-9:00 p.m.Interment was at Stinchcomb United Methodist Church Cemetery.Grandsons served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Stinchcomb United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Vee McIntosh 2091 Deep Creek Road NW Dewy Rose, GA 30634 Arrangements for Mrs. Sarah Maxwell Blackmon were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
