Raymond Edgar Chandler

Mr. Raymond Edgar Chandler, 88, of Elberton, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, December 9, 2016 at Piedmont Athens Regional. Mr. Chandler was born in Elberton, son of the late Raymond Edgar, Sr. and Susie Mattox Chandler.He was married to his bride, Sarah Ray Chandler, with whom he had celebrated 56 years of marriage together.Mr. Chandler was a veteran of the United States Marines, having proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict.He worked as an automotive mechanic for Edwards Motor Co., and afterwards he was self-employed in the recycling business. In addition to his wife, Sarah, Mr. Chandler is survived by his son, Ray Chandler of Elberton; and his daughter, Rochelle M. Chandler of Hartwell.He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Shelby Gaines of Statesboro, and Mary Elizabeth and Brooke A. Gaines of Hartwell. A service to celebrate Mr. Chandler’s life was held Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, with Rev. Billy Lewis and Rev. Scott Mize officiating.A time of visitation began at 1:00 p.m. just prior to the service.Interment followed at Middleton United Methodist Church Cemetery.Gary Adams, Herman Hill, Mark McCall, Wayne White, Eddie Todd, and Harvey Hester served as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ladies Circle of Middleton United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 660, Elberton, GA, or to Bethel “E” Baptist Church at 2576 Calhoun Falls Hwy., Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mr. Raymond E. Chandler were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
