Mr. Junious Marion “Pete” Smith, 79, of Elberton, Georgia passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home. "Pop," as he was lovingly known, was born in Goosepond, Georgia to the late Garland Marion and Julia Tiller Smith.He was preceded in death by his beloved bride, “Dottie” Middleton Smith, with whom he had celebrated over 50 years of marriage.He was also preceded in death by his precious daughter, Tammi Barker (Boop); a brother, Harold “Bob” Smith; and a sister, Winnie Wallace. Mr. Pete proudly served his country in the United States Army, and retired from the Georgia National Guard.He was the co-owner of Smith Refrigeration and City Ice Co. along with his brother, Bob Smith.Pete was an avid gardener with a green thumb, and loved to share God and the fruits of his labor with others.He was a lifelong member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, and genuinely loved the Lord and his church family. Survivors include Pop’s best friend, “Red”;his son-in-law, Jimmy Barker; two grandchildren, Miles Barker and Addison Barker; a sister, Stella Smith Angel; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many special friends.He is also survived by two very special friends and caregivers, Alice Brown and Dawn Strickland. A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Pete Smith’s life was held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Paramore, Rev. Dwight Morgan, and Rev. Jack McVeigh officiating.A time of visitation was held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to T.J. & Friends Foundation, at P.O. Box 6161, Elberton, GA, or to Falling Creek Baptist Church Youth, at 1010 Jack McVeigh Drive, Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mr. J. Marion “Pete” Smith were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
