Mr. Jerry Lee Beggs, 74, of Elberton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at his home.A native of Elberton, he was the son of the late Robert E. Beggs, Jr. and the late Aurie Belle Dickerson. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Beggs and David Beggs. Mr. Beggs was retired from Diamant Boart/Husqvarna, where he worked as a Technical Service Coordinator.He was a member of Forest Hill Assembly of God Church where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and song leader, as well as serving in many other positions.Mr. Beggs previously served his country in the National Guard, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Forest Hill Assembly of God Church.Rev. Ann Reynolds officiated, and Kyle Scarborough, Dawson Scarborough Troy McCannon, Randy Lane, Ben Suttles, Marshall Beggs, and David Sayer served as pallbearers.Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery.The family received friends on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife of almost 51 years, Mary Ann Scarborough Beggs; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Denise Beggs of Elberton; daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Beggs of Elberton, and Elizabeth and Tommy Bowen of Burlington, N.C.; and grandchildren: Kayla Dove and her husband, Jake, Emily Beggs, Caleb Beggs, Christian Aponte, Brick Bowen, and Brady Bowen. Mr. Beggs also leaves behind five sisters: Daisey Maddux, Martha Hammond, Patricia McBrayer, Jean Jewell, and Susan Suttles;and many nieces and nephews. Flowers were graciously accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, Elbert County Camp, P.O. Box 6211, Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elberton.
