Anri "Harry" Konfino

Anri "Harry" Konfino, age 98 (days short of his 99th birthday) of Elberton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016.

A native of Sliven, Bulgaria, Anri was the son of David and Mazal Tov Konfino. By profession he was a textile engineer and was a graduate of the Bulgarian Textile Institute, in Sliven, Bulgaria.

He lived through and survived the Holocaust, during which time he was ordered to work in a forced labor camp. He also survived the subsequent communist invasion of Bulgaria. After the war, in 1945, he married Fina Gozes, and they were happily married for 67 years until her passing on May 8, 2013.

Fleeing Communism, Anri immigrated to the newly established state of Israel with his wife and infant child, David Konfino where he continued working as a textile engineer and also served as a reservist in the Israel Defense Forces. In December of 1959, he and his family came to Elberton, Georgia, where he has resided ever since. Until his retirement in 2005, he served as General Manager of Elberton Manufacturing Company where he worked for 55 years. He had been a member of the Congregation Children of Israel in Athens, Georgia, since 1961.

Survivors include son, David Konfino and wife, Marilyn, of Miami, Florida; granddaughter, Arielle Konfino Cohen and husband, Jason Cohen, of Dallas, Texas; step-granddaughter, Tamara Shane of Miami, Florida and step-grandson, Daniel Benitez of Brooklyn, New York.

Graveside services were held on Friday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, Georgia with Rabbis Eric Linder and Ronald Gerson officiating.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, from 2:00-4:00p.m. in Elberton First Baptist Church's ROC Building.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Elbert Memorial Hospital Foundation, 4 Medical Drive, Elberton, GA 30635.
